Britney's Best

MTV Honors Britney

On Sunday, as many of us know, the MTV Video Music Awards will be honoring Britney Spears with its Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award for her music video achievements. Britney is one of the premiere video artists of her generation. She never fails to disappoint in delivering a video high on controversy, choreography, chic, or some combination of all. So in honor of this, I decided to select 5 of my all time favorite Britney videos and detail why.

Sometimes

I think "Sometimes" always gets overlooked as a video. While it was a sizable hit, it was also a mid-tempo ballad which his hard for any artist to sell as a single. I like this as a video because it shows Britney as a young lady, contemplating the rocky road of relationships while also being coy and playful. My absolute favorite part of the video is when she forms the same heart during the choreography routine as she did in "...Baby One More Time" video. I also like the beach setting and the white outfits as well.

Stronger

This is probably one of my all time favorite videos by any artist. I love the darker themes, the club setting, but my favorite of all has to be the chair routine. I love the choreography in the chair scene as well as the way the chair was almost like another character in how it interacted with Britney. I thought for sure that this would be the video that would win her a VMA, but alas it didn't. I still believe she was robbed!

I'm A Slave 4 U

I love this video and song for several reasons. The Neptunes' beat is awesome, Wade Robeson's African and Middle Eastern influenced choreography is cool, and I still can't wrap my head around the fact that she somehow made wearing underwear on the outside of your clothes work for her. I love the way the video is in bright bold colors. That's one thing about all of Britney's videos to me, she just knows how to incorporate colors in a theme and no doubt this is why I love this song and video as much as I did when it came out.

Break the Ice

I can never get enough of the song. And to me the video is one of the more overlooked Britney pieces. Even though this came out in what some consider Britney's dark period, I still think it's one of her best songs. The beat is infectious and pulsating and I don't care who you are, if this doesn't make you dance I don't know what will.

Hold It Against Me

When I heard this was Britney's first single for her latest album, I was intrigued. I wondered what it would sound like and how it would translate into video. Of course while I was thinking, Britney had created what I believe to be a brilliant summary of her career so far. She's always trying to move past what came before and look ahead, even if that means fighting with herself. I think anyone can relate because we've all fought with ourselves before, it just probably didn't look as cool as Britney did with her karate moves.

It's Britney, So..

I honestly picked these five because I think they reflect my favorite Britney memories and/or moments. There were other videos I considered such as "Lucky" and "Everytime" but I wanted to try to include different moments in her video evolution as possible. I've included a poll below with other videos, including the ones I just mentioned so let me know what your favorite Britney video is.

This surprised me, is she still going strong over there? She was doing well when I was in the UK, but over here you don't get a lot of UK or US music news ....

Thanks for SHARING.
